U-14’s kick-start Championship Campaign

Owenmore Gaels 9-11 Tubbercurry/Cloonacool 3-3

The U-14’s got their first win of their A Championship campaign with an empathic win over Tubbercurry/Cloonacool in Connolly park on Friday evening.

In an incredible first half we hit the net 5 times before registering a point, Vincent Harte, Kevin Quigley, Oisin Geraghty, Aaron Walsh and Connaill O’Dwyer with the majors. The lively Darragh Mahon knocked over our first point of the game minutes before half time to leave us 5-1 to 3-3 ahead at half time.

The start of the second half was a cagey and scrappy affair, with no score until 12 minutes in when Ross Trill raised a white flag. We then took the game by the scruff of the neck playing some fantastic football. Tubber were not to score again while we went on to score 4-9. Sub Byron Doherty came on to score 2 goals, one from a good break upfield from fellow sub Dave Markey. Darragh Connolly came off the bench to score 3 fine points at corner forward, the pick of which after great approach play from Trill and Mahon. Vincent harte added another goal to his tally, Mahon got 2 more in a typically energetic performance. Quigley scored two more, Trill got the goal he deserved with a poachers effort. Geragthy and Stephen Fallon were the others to raise white flags in this devastation second half showing.

It was a fine result for the team as they showed they are more than capable of playing at this level. There is one group game left against St. Molaise Gaels where a win would give us a chance of making the semi-finals.

Best on the day for the gaels were Oisin Geraghty and Ross Trill.
