We held our inaugural online table quiz last night in what was a bit of a step into the unknown for ourselves and our partners for the evening theHoranstand.com.
The evening commenced with Aoife Hodgins entertaining us with some beautiful singing between 9-9:30 as Liam greeted each participant and showed them to their virtual rooms. Indeed the incredible response we had to the quiz meant a big virtual queue at the venue door so it was about 10pm before we got everybody in place and the quiz started.
As we and the participants got to grips with how the format would work the first few rounds took some time. However each issue was overcome with great understanding from our participants and after 3 or so rounds it was relative plain sailing.
Huge thanks to our resident quizmaster Thomas Kerins for putting together a fantastic quiz. Sound, picture and puzzle rounds were used to help with ‘googleproofing’ the quiz. There was also a lesson in one of the rounds which we will keep to ourselves. Lets just say, Don’t believe everything you read on the world wide web!
It was at times manic in the operating room gathering answers by email and getting scores up to date. A huge thank you to Joey, Donna, Joan, Niall and Aoife who were in the engine room throughout the night.
Also a huge thanks to Liam Horan for organizing and directing proceedings. Liam was a pleasure to work with in the build up to the quiz and put a huge amount of work into preparing us as best possible. Check out the thehoranstand.com website to see the brilliant services they or offering, a brilliant outlet at this current time. The Friday night out, In definitely one to check out for a meet up with your friends.
In the end their can only be one winner and while it was very close throughout Table 28, ‘Stephen’s Kippers’ took the title of first online quiz winners with a magnificent total of 75 correct answers from 80 questions. The team was made of of the Ballisodare trio of Leigh Cavanagh, Stephen Healy and Gavin Phelan with Mark McDonagh joining all the way from Ohio USA to make up the quartet. This shows the great benefits of the online format as our quiz had a global reach. In second place on 73 was table number 34 ‘Big Fact Hunt’ made up of Morven Connolly, Debbie Connolly, and Jennifer and Anthony Gilvarry.
Congratulations to our top two teams who recieve a €50 voucher each, generously donated by Whitesides Centra Collooney and For Pete’s Streak Butcher shop Collooney.
We hope all of the participants enjoyed the night. Thanks for your patience throughout the early stages and understanding on the time overun. We definitely learned a lot of lessons, and no doubt when we do it again, in the near future hopefully, it will be more streamlined. Feedback is encouraged to treasurer.owenmoregaels.sligo@gaa.ie
The aim of the night was to provide an outlet for an evening and hopefully get some people re-connecting again and have some fun. We hope we achieved this goal.
