U-21’s defeated on return

U-21 Championship Result: Calry/St.Josephs 2-13 Owenmore Gaels 1-12
Our return to the U-21 grade ended in defeat this evening as Calry ran out 4 point winners in a very entertaining game.
Calry started with real intent, scoring 1-2 before we mustered a response through Ross Taheny who finished of a nice team move with his right foot.
We etched away at that lead, thanks largely to a fortuitous goal from Gary Anderson from a long range point effort. Kevin Healy hit a long range score and Oisin Geraghty’s determination got him a super score. The teams were level at 1-5 a piece at the turnaround, the rest of our scores coming from frees from Taheny.
The teams shared the first 4 points of the second period. Calry, backed by a strengthening breeze, took control to fire 3 unanswered points. We refused to fold and for the rest of the half kept trying to reel them in, getting within 1 point on several occasions. In the last minute as we scrambled for an equaliser, a turnover in the centre of the field led to Calry bagging the insurance goal with the last kick of the game. All of our scores in the second half came from Taheny, 2 from play and the rest from placed balls.
The lads showed great character and no shortage of skill in a keenly contested game. In a very young team we had 6 minors, who acquitted themselves very well. Taheny lit up the scoreboard with some brilliant scores and Geraghty and Roly Anderson showed superb workrate. James Duffy lead by example at the back, aided by an impressive performance from Liam Gilligan beside him. Plenty of positives to take from the outing.

Team: Diarmuid O’Grady, James Duffy, Liam Gilligan, Roan Conneely, Cian Whiteside (Connall O’Dwyer), Roly Anderson, Mark Walsh, Ross Taheny (0-10, 7F), Oisin Geraghty (0-1), Kevin Healy (0-1), Ronan Sweeney, Ethan McLoughlin, Gary Anderson (1-0)
