Minors secure point in Bunninadden

Minor League Division 1

Ballymote/Bunninadden 0-16 Owenmore Gaels 3-7

Kyle Taheny at Bunninadden Community Park

Ballymote/Bunninadden scored a point with the last kick of the game to level the tie in a topsy-turvy, physical game played in Bunninadden this evening.

The Gaels started the brighter but failed to capitalise, dropping the first few kicks into the keepers hands from scorable positions. Ballymote/Bunninadden took encouragement from this and raced into a 5 point lead. It wasn’t until the 18th minute that the Gaels opened their account, with Kevin Healy converting a free kick. Both teams traded points over the next few minutes and on 27 minutes, the Gaels were reduced to 14 men with Derek Lynch dismissed. The half ended with a fantastic point from 40 metres out on the right sideline by Jack Foley, leaving the score 0-8 to 0-4 in favour of the home team

The second half started more evenly, with neither team adding to the score, before Kevin Healy had to leave the field of play due to a nasty injury. Shortly after this, the game burst into life, with Aaron Walsh finding the net. The home team responded with scores of their own before Rolly Anderson finished off a great team move with a goal. Walsh quickly added his second and the Gael’s third. As the half neared thirty minutes, Owenmore Gaels found themselves in a four point lead. There was enough injury time however for Bunninadden/Ballymote to claw back and level the game.

Overall it was a great battling team performance, with the Gaels showing great character to play the game for so long with fourteen men and could and perhaps should have taken the two points in the end. Wishing a speedy recovery for Kevin Healy.
