U-14 Lads Win D8 Shield at National Finals!

The dust has settled on a fantastic trip to Louth by our U-14 boys for the National Féile. The spotlight was rightly on the boys over the weekend and they did us proud both on and off the field, culminating in winning the D8 Shield competition. Coincidentally our hard fought final victory came against Scartaglin of Co.Kerry, home club of senior team captain Pa Murphy! A momentous achievement given our relatively small squad, with a number of our lads playing through the pain barrier to get over the line. Special mention for Dylan Clarke who took a big hit in the second game and injured his ribs, speedy recovery Dylan.

The club would like to wholeheartedly thank all of the parents and families of the lads for their support and help over the last few months and over the weekend. They traveled in numbers and their support and encouragement no doubt got our boys over the line in a number of matches.

We would also like to again mention our host club Cooley Kickhams, for all they did for us over the weekend. Their facilities were first class but their kindness and support was what really stood out. A bond has been forged between the clubs that we will definitely tap into again in the future. The picture below of the two teams together is a wonderful illustration of what a wonderful sport GAA is and why it is so important in our childrens lives.

Above all we would particularly like to acknowledge and applaud the incredible effort, organisation and time the two men pictured below have put into last weekend and this team over the last number of years. The boys (and adults!) enjoyed a weekend they will always remember, and it simply would not have happened without the relentless drive and enthusiasm from Gary and Garrett. From their expertise on the training pitch and match days to their successful fundraising drive to get the boys to the other side of the country for the weekend, they have been super and have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Garrett travelled with the team on Friday, came home after the boys game Saturday morning to line out for the senior team in a crucial league win before travelling back up first thing Sunday for the lads semi-final. Incredible commitment and a super role model for the boys. Thank you lads, hopefully your success can inspire new volunteers to take up similar roles in the club going forward. Well done to the parents who made a presentation to the lads in recognition of their efforts.

The boys only have a couple of days to rest before they are back in action on Thursday with an away game against Shamrock Gaels on Thursday evening in the Division 1 league. Let’s get out in numbers to support them once again.
